Growing up in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago in Rolling Meadow, Ericka believes that children deserve the opportunity to wonder and be leaders in their own lives. Children learn best through inquiry and having the option to guide their own learning experiences. Through the ability to be one with nature and learning through a play philosophy children create a sense of identity, social skills, and create a passion for learning.
Ericka began her career in Early Childhood working at North Branch Arts as an arts & nature teacher. She graduated from Illinois State with a degree in University Studies and a minor in Children’s Studies. She is currently continuing her education at Erikson Institute working on a Master’s in Early Childhood Education with a professional educator’s license and an endorsement in Special Education.
Throughout her time as an undergrad, she worked at the YWCA in Early Childhood program as a lead teacher in infants, 2’s and preschool. She then worked her way up to an administrative role where the focus was on eliminating racism and empowering women in the Before & After and Summer camp program.
Moving back to the Chicagoland area in 2020, Ericka became a lead preschool teacher at Stepping Stones Nursery School and co-directed the Lincoln Square location. She is now the Education Director at the newest Stepping Stones location in Portage Park.
Ericka has a love for travel, and always has something on the agenda between day trips and continuing her goal of going to all 50 states and traveling through Europe. She enjoys decorating her new home in Arlington Heights with plants and taking walks through the neighborhood to grab some ice cream at local shops.
