frequently asked questions
1. Do you offer tours of Stepping Stones Nursery School?
As we are a small daycare and pre-school, we focus our staff time and care on our current students. Therefore, we only offer tours when we have an opening. Families on our wait list will be contacted about tour dates when spaces become available.
2. Do you offer half-day childcare?
Yes, we do offer half-day childcare; however, priority will be given to families requiring a full-day space.
3. When do you expect an opening?
Stepping Stones is full at the present time. We are currently accepting wait list applications for all age groups and will keep our Wait List Families up to date with any potential future openings as and when they arise. Stepping Stones is a small school and our families stay for many years. It is difficult for us to predict when a space will become available but we usually see most spaces opening up in September of each year. We advise families who are interested to inquire in Spring before the summer rush for a September enrollment.
4. How does the wait list work?
Our wait list operates on a first come, first served basis. A child is placed on the wait list once both the registration form and non-refundable $35 registration fee have been received. Families who receive financial aid through the state’s CCAP are not required to pay the wait list fee. Siblings of current students are given priority over new families. We also reserve the right to prioritize families seeking a full-time spot or those that help maintain a balance of diverse children.
We operate a single wait list for all age groups so that families who have been waiting at the top of the infant wait list are not moved to the bottom of the toddler wait list. As spaces arise, we will contact families whose children fit the appropriate age group in the order they are placed on the list.
5. Are wait-listed families guaranteed a spot at Stepping Stones?
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a place at Stepping Stones. We are a small school that experiences little movement in enrollment numbers.
6. Can I transfer a wait list spot to another child?
Yes, if one child has aged out, you may transfer your wait list spot to a younger sibling.
7. Why do I need to pay a wait list fee?
Our wait list fee covers administrative costs, tour documents, and other tour-related costs. Additionally, the wait list fee helps to keep the wait list down to manageable numbers and increases the chance that families on the wait list will receive a spot.
8. Why does it take so long for a spot to become available?
Stepping Stones is a small school with a very stable enrollment. Most of our children stay with us from birth to Kindergarten! Occasionally, spots become available when a family has a change of circumstances or as Stepping Stones continues to expand.
9. Does Stepping Stones accept financial aid?
Yes, Stepping Stones accepts payments made through the State of Illinois CCAP. See here for more information. Please note that families are responsible for paying the difference between the state payments and the total tuition fee. Stepping Stones will waive the wait list and enrollment fees for families enrolled in CCAP.
